A third, and hopefully final, synopsis for Pixar's November 2015 release, The Good Dinosaur, has been unveiled. The new synopsis is not much different then previous ones other than obvious elements that have been surprisingly taken out. Does these exemptions mean that the film has gone into a significantly different plot direction or do they simply mean that the studio wants to hold back more on story details? Find out what the new synopsis is and what it means for the future of The Good Dinosaur's marketing campaign all after the break! The New Synopsis for The Good Dinosaur: 'The Good Dinosaur' asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of. The previous synopsis read as "The Good Dinosaur asks the generations-old question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? In theaters November 25, 2015, the film is a humorous and exciting original story about Arlo, a lively Apatosaurus with a big heart. After a traumatic event unsettles Arlo’s family, he sets out on a remarkable journey, gaining an unlikely companion along the way - a human boy. The Good Dinosaur is an extraordinary journey of self-discovery full of thrilling adventure, hilarious characters and poignant heart."
The most significant differences are that there is no longer any mention of main character Arlo's family. Additionally, there is no mention of the traumatic event that unsettles the family. I personally do not feel that this exemption means that there have been any significant story changes, as it would be way too late in the game for that to be changing, but rather that this is just a marketing technique to possibly create more mystery and unknown about the project. I would also like to note that the updated synopsis is NOT on Pixar's official website, which also seems to point to the idea that this is not very significant. I, however, did think that it was a worthy story and that it poses some interesting questions about the direction that the film will be taking. I also feel that this distinctly more ambiguous synopsis gives director Peter Sohn and the marketing team behind the film some breathing room in creating more intrigue with the film. I also think this is a good time to speculate on when we will be getting our official first look at The Good Dinosaur. I have thought for a while that Walt Disney Pictures would release a teaser for the film in front of the Disney May 22nd release of Tomorrowland. While it still looks like that could be a huge possibility, I am a bit skeptical that the marketing campaign will start before the release of Pixar's Inside Out. If we really do get a teaser in front of Tomorrowland, that would mean that the trailer would be dropping next week, which is very exciting! However, only time will tell, so for now I am still being cautiously optimistic, but only time will tell. Keep checking up on this page for any updates on the release of the teaser trailer and lets hope together that we get our first look next week! |
