Exclusive: ZOOTOPIA Characters and Voice Cast Revealed

In an article published by USA Today, Disney's Zootopia directors Rich Moore and Byron Howard revealed an extensive cast of eclectic characters and the amazing voice talent behind them for the film, set to debut in theaters on March 4th, 2016! Zootopia is set to be the 55th feature film for Walt Disney Animation Studios, riding off of the commercial and critical success of the studio's latest features, Tangled, Wreck-it Ralph, Frozen, and Big Hero 6. The film is set in a world inhabited, and designed by, only animals. Meet the herd of main characters in Disney's Zootopia after the break!

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde, to solve the mystery. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia,” a comedy-adventure directed by Byron Howard (“Tangled,” “Bolt”) and Rich Moore (“Wreck-It Ralph,” “The Simpsons”) and co-directed by Jared Bush (“Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero”), opens in theaters on March 4, 2016.

Foxy Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) is working with a rabbit partner to solve a Zootopia crime.

Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) is a ground-breaking rabbit trying to make it as a cop in the Zootopia Police Department. 

Idris Elba provides the voice of Chief Bogo, head of the Zootopia Police Department, in Disney's Zootopia, in theaters March 4. In this exclusive look at the animated film's extended cast, Elba says he took the part by the horns. "I've definitely got some shoulder-envy," he says.

Oscar winner Octavia Spencer (The Help) voices Mrs. Otterton.

Oscar winner J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) provides the voice for Mayor Leodore Lionheart, the noble leader of Zootopia. The mayor coined the city’s mantra: “In Zootopia, anyone can be anything.”

Tommy Chong voices Yax the Yak, a most enlightened, laid-back bovine in Zootopia. 

Nate Torrence lends his voice to the Zootopia Police Department’s charming cheetah, Benjamin Clawhauser. He loves his doughnuts and his pop stars.

Jenny Slate voices Assistant Mayor Bellwether, a sweet sheep with a little voice and a lot of wool.

Alan Tudyk (Frozen) returns to Disney’s recording studio as the voice of Duke Weaselton, a small-time weasel crook with a big-time mouth. (sounds familiar?!)

Raymond Persi voices Flash, the fastest sloth working at Zootopia's DMV — the Department of Mammal Vehicles. 

Bonnie Hunt provides the voice of Bonnie Hopps, Judy's mother. Don Lake voices Judy’s father, Stu, a carrot farmer from Bunnyburrow. 

This eclectic herd of characters will be coming to the big screen on March 4th, 2016. Walt Disney Animation Studios looks to continue their high with Zootopia, featuring a lush world of intricate characters and worlds. We should expect a full theatrical trailer coming very soon with the release of The Peanuts Movie in early November and later in the month with The Good Dinosaur. Expect fun to ensue!
