The excitement of finally having a release date for Frozen 2 is undeniable amongst fans of the blockbuster sensation. After waiting six strenuous years, Frozen fans may finally get answers to some of their most pressing questions like how Elsa was born with magic powers, if Anna and Kristoff will still be together, and possibly even answers to questions about Elsa's sexuality.

While the official release date for Frozen 2 has re-ignited Frozen fever, the new release dates for Ralph 2 and Gigantic are not quite as promising as they once had been. Ralph 2 was pushed back nearly three quarters of a year, from March 8th, 2018 to November 21st, 2018. While it is nice to have consistency in film releases (a new Disney Animated film every subsequent November), pushing Ralph 2 back eight months is not a particularly great sign. Even if the film was pushed back simply to compete during the holiday season, Wreck-It Ralph fans are surely disappointed in having to wait that much longer for the much anticipated sequel.

With that all being said, the most alarming news is the delay in release of Gigantic by nearly two full years. Initially slated for November 21st, 2018, Disney Animation's reimagining of the story of Jack and the Beanstalk is now set for November 25th, 2020. While we can only speculate, this delay in release probably is the result of much more than simply reorganizing the release schedule. Because this film is being delayed over two years, there must be significant story details or technical issues requiring the Disney Animation team to need more time. Although many delays in film releases can be portrayed as negative, sometimes a studio recognizing that a film needs more time to work out its kinks is not such a bad thing. Let's hope that director Nathan Greno (Tangled) and musical talents Robert Lopez and Kristine Anderson-Lopez (Frozen) are able to come through with an absolutely spectacular reimagining of the classic fairy tale.
