The 89th annual Academy Award nominations are in! Walt Disney Animation Studios' two feature animation releases of 2016, Zootopia and Moana, have both been nominated for Best Animated Feature. As we congratulate the fantastic work produced at the historically acclaimed studio, check out all of Disney Animation's nominations after the break! Animated Feature Film Nominees:
Original Song Nominees:
As highlighted above, Walt Disney Animation Studios not only was awarded two of the five Best Animated Feature nominations, but also one of the five nominations for Original Song. Lin-Manuel Miranda, Oscar-nominated for Moana's How Far I'll Go, is one of a special few who have been nominated for all four of the biggest awards the entertainment industry delivers: The Emmys, The Grammys, The Tony Awards, and The Oscars (commonly known collectively as the EGOT's). Miranda has previously won an Emmy for his work on the music and lyrics for the 2013 Tony Award Show, two Grammy's for his cast recordings of In The Heights and Hamilton, and three personal Tony Awards (his musicals have garnered several more). Lin-Manuel Miranda (37) would be the youngest artist to win all four awards.
A huge congratulations is in order for both teams of artists behind Zootopia and Moana, as well as Lin-Manuel Miranda and all those who helped write the music and lyrics for Moana's showstopper How Far I'll Go. Zootopia seems to be the front-runner for the Best Animated Feature category, after winning numerous accolades- most recently the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature. How Far I'll Go has tough competition with La La Land's City Of Stars, but let's hope Auli'i Carvalho's strong vocals can beat out Ryan Gosling's charming performance! Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, The Oscars will go live on Sunday, February 26th on ABC. |
